Color selection can be one of the most nerve wracking parts of having your house painted, so it makes sense to take the time to get it right. A professional color consultation from Lotus Painting can be very helpful to make sure the end result is exactly what you had in mind. Along with personal taste and vision for the project, a person should also consider how long they intend to live in the house and what other houses in the neighborhood look like. If, for instance, you absolutely love the idea of having a pink house, but you don’t think that you’ll live there for more than two or three years, and the rest of the houses in the neighborhood are variations on earth tones, I would advise you to consider a color less bold. This will obviously help you get the house sold down the road. On the contrary, if you intend to live in your house until they cart you away to an adult care facility, and the more subtle earth tones are not your style, then I would advise you to by all means paint your house a color that brings you the most joy, such as capturing the essence of Colorado blue skies, Sedona sandstone or maybe even something a little more bold.
Finding a color that pleases your eye does not have to be limited to a fan deck or ‘color wheel’. If you have a piece of fabric, a pillow, or even a picture from a magazine, we can have it perfectly matched at the paint store. Once we have a color in mind, it is extremely important to get some of the paint made and then make a large (1’ by 2’ for example) sample on the wall, or on a piece of poster board. It is quite common to pick out a color that looks fantastic on the color chip only to find that once it is larger and on the wall it just doesn’t please the eye in the same way. Even my wife (a landscape architect who professionally works with design for a living) and I (a professional painter with 17 years of experience) will typically go through two or three sample quarts when we do paint projects on our own house to ensure we get the desired results.
Color consultation is considered part of our services when you contract Lotus Painting, and we take it very seriously. We want all of the hard work to pay off with a customer who is delighted with the results.
